Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court declared the Electoral Bond Scheme and amendments to the Finance Act 2017 unconstitutional, finding them violative of the right to information under Article 19(1)(a) and arbitrary under Article 14 of the Constitution. The Court mandated the State Bank of India to disclose details of Electoral Bonds purchased and redeemed from April 12, 2019, to February 15, 2024, and directed the Election Commission of India to publish this information. The issuance of Electoral Bonds was ordered to cease immediately, and the SBI was required to comply with the Court's directives by March 6, 2024.
