Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court directed that women Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs) shall be considered for one-time pensionary benefits as if they have completed the minimum qualifying service of twenty years, as per the judgment dated 16 November 2022. The Court clarified that the pension must be computed based on the last drawn salary at the deemed completion date, including notional increments for the period between release and deemed completion. The Court held that arrears of pension are payable from the deemed completion date, while arrears of salary are not applicable, and directed the Union government to revise pension payments accordingly by 15 June 2024.
