The Supreme Court overturned the Delhi High Court's ruling that declared the land acquisition lapsed under Section 24(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The court reasoned that since possession of the land was taken on 31.12.2013, the acquisition could not be deemed to have lapsed as per the precedent set in Indore Development Authority Vs. Manoharlal. Consequently, the appeal by the Government of NCT Delhi was allowed, affirming the validity of the land acquisition.
