Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the issue of interest claimed by flat-owners following the demolition of illegal constructions in Ernakulam, Kerala. The court directed the State Government to pay interim compensation of Rs. 25 lakhs to each flat-owner, to be recovered from the responsible builders. A committee was established to oversee the distribution of compensation based on the determined amounts for the building portion, while the land share remains with the flat-owners.
