The Supreme Court overturned the Delhi High Court's decision declaring the land acquisition under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 as lapsed under Section 24(2) of the Act, 2013. The court reasoned that the acquisition process had been completed with possession taken in 1983 and the award declared, thus the provisions of the newer Act did not apply retrospectively. The appeal by the Government of NCT of Delhi was allowed, reinstating the validity of the acquisition.
