Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the conflict between the Council of Architecture (CoA) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) regarding the approval of architectural education institutions. It was held that both bodies, established under Section 3 of the Architects Act, 1972 and Section 3 of the All India Council of Technical Education Act, 1987 respectively, have distinct but overlapping roles in regulating architectural education. The Court clarified that the CoA's role is primarily consultative and that the Central Government holds the ultimate authority for recognizing qualifications necessary for registration as an architect under Section 25 of the 1972 Act.
