Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed appeals against the Delhi High Court's dismissal of Rent Control Revisions concerning eviction petitions filed under Section 14(1)(e) of the Delhi Rent Control Act, 1958. The Court held that the maintainability of such petitions based on the landlord's bonafide need must be evaluated in light of the precedent set in Satyawati Sharma (Dead) by LRs. Vs. Union of India, (2008) 5 SCC 287, which the appellants argued should be referred to a larger bench for reconsideration. The Court ultimately upheld the High Court's decision, affirming the rejection of the leave to defend application by the Rent Controller.
