Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that in calculating compensation for a deceased aged 20, the correct multiplier should be based on the age of the deceased rather than the age of the mother, as established in Sarla Verma & Ors. v. Delhi Transport Corporation & Anr. The Court found that the High Court and MACT had erred in applying a multiplier of 11 instead of the appropriate multiplier of 18. Consequently, the Court enhanced the compensation awarded to the appellants, recognizing the need to account for future prospects and loss of estate.
