Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court held that in determining the multiplier for calculating compensation in motor accident cases, the age of the deceased should be considered rather than the age of the parents. The Court overruled the application of a multiplier of 11, stating that a multiplier of 18 should be applied for a deceased aged 20, as established in Sarla Verma & Ors. v. Delhi Transport Corporation. The Court also emphasized the need to consider future prospects and loss of estate in compensation calculations, thereby enhancing the compensation awarded by the MACT.
