Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) which awarded compensation of Rs 2,00,000 to the appellant for the delay in granting an electricity connection, which took nearly nineteen years. The Court found that the respondent's claim of having granted the connection was false, and emphasized the importance of timely service under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. The Court held that the respondent was liable for deficiency in service under Section 2(1)(g) of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, and affirmed the NCDRC's order for compensation.
