Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the Notification dated 27.06.2007 issued under Section 5(2) of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, which revised minimum wages for various categories of workers. The Court ruled that the classification of workers, including trainees, was permissible under the Act and that the minimum wages fixed would not fall below the established rates. The appeal against the High Court's dismissal of the Writ Petition was therefore dismissed, affirming the legality of the Notification and the classification of workmen.
