Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd., being a 'State' under Article 12 of the Constitution, is amenable to writ jurisdiction under Articles 226 and 227. The Court found that the appellant's inability to produce the original Scheduled Tribe Certificate did not invalidate his appointment as he had requested to be treated as a General Category candidate. The Court set aside the High Court's order that had favored the Corporation, thereby reinstating the appellant's position.
