Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the appellant under Sections 7 and 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, affirming the sentence of two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 40,000. The Court found sufficient evidence of bribery, as the appellant demanded Rs. 4000 for installing an electric connection, which was corroborated by the complainant and the shadow witness. The acquittal of the appellant on the charge of conspiracy under Section 120-B IPC was also confirmed, as the prosecution failed to establish any conspiracy between the appellant and the co-accused.
