Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the High Court's enhancement of compensation from Rs. 11,83,000 to Rs. 21,53,000 for the dependents of the deceased Ismail, who died in a motor accident. The Court found that the High Court's assessment of the deceased's income at Rs. 30,000 per month was justified based on the salary certificate from Al-Rawabi Food Centre, Doha. However, the Court modified the deduction for personal expenses from 2/3 to 40%, ultimately awarding a total compensation of Rs. 28,00,000 with interest at 8% per annum from the date of filing the claim petition.
