Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the validity of a driving licence under Section 14 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, in the context of a motor accident claim. The Court held that the driving licence of the driver, Nirmal Singh, was valid until 29.04.2011, contrary to the insurance company's claim that it had expired in 2003. The Court ruled that the insurance company could not absolve itself of liability based on the expired licence argument, thus reversing the High Court's decision and reinstating the liability of the insurance company to compensate the claimants.
