Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the validity of the 'Licensing and Controlling of Places of Public Amusements (Bangalore City) Order, 1989' under Section 31 of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963, affirming that restaurants displaying 'Live Band Music' fall under the definition of 'Public Amusement' as per Section 2(14) of the Act. The Court ruled that the Commissioner and District Magistrate have the authority to regulate such establishments to maintain public order. The appeal against the High Court's dismissal of the writ petition was therefore rejected.
