The Supreme Court directed that the appointment of the Chairman and members of various tribunals shall be made by an interim Search-cum-Selection Committee, with a fixed term of 5 years, overriding the previous 3-year term as per the Tribunal, Appellate Tribunal and other Authorities (Qualification, experience and other conditions of service of members) Rules, 2017. The Court accepted modifications proposed by the Attorney General regarding the conditions of service to align with the old Acts and Rules. The Court's holding ensures that the selections made by the interim committee remain valid irrespective of the final outcome of the writ petition.
