Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the Bombay High Court's decision to strike down the domicile requirement for admission to Postgraduate Medical/Dental Courses in unaided Private Educational Institutions in Maharashtra, citing the principles established in Dr. Pradeep Jain v. Union of India (1984) and Vishal Goyal v. State of Karnataka (2014). The Court reiterated that while institutional preference is permissible, requiring candidates to be domiciled in the state is not. The appeal was dismissed with no order as to costs.
