Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that Physically Handicapped candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) are entitled to 10 attempts in the Civil Services Examination, as opposed to the 7 attempts currently allowed. The Court held that the increase in attempts for General Category candidates necessitates a similar increase for OBC candidates to ensure equality under Article 14 of the Constitution. The judgment of the Madras High Court and Delhi High Court allowing the writ petitions was upheld, thereby affirming the rights of OBC candidates in this context.
