The Supreme Court held that the respondents, Dr. Ramesh Chandra Mishra, Dr. Ravindra Nath Mishra, and Dr. Bachau Prasad Pathak, were not appointed as ad hoc Lecturers at Lala Laxmi Narain Degree College, as they failed to apply in accordance with the advertisement dated 12th January 1988. The Court found that their subsequent appointment as part-time Lecturers did not confer the status of ad hoc Lecturers, thus reversing the Allahabad High Court's decision which erroneously granted them such status. The appeals were allowed, confirming that the respondents were only entitled to the remuneration applicable to part-time Lecturers under the Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Services Commission Act, 1980.
