Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the appellant under Section 13(1)(e) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, affirming the findings of the lower courts that the appellant, a public servant, had acquired assets disproportionate to his known sources of income amounting to Rs.7,94,033/-. The Court found that the prosecution had established the requisite elements of the offence, including the appellant's income and expenditure during the check period from 1970 to 1992. The sentence of two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.20,000/- was also upheld.
