Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the issue of use and occupation charges between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and J. Dheva Lakshmi for the period from February 12, 2010, to October 2015. The Court found the High Court's fixation of rent at Rs. 1,35,800/- per month to be difficult to appreciate and opted to settle the dispute under Article 142 of the Constitution of India. The Court directed the appellant to pay a total of Rs. 30 Lakhs to the respondent in full and final settlement of claims, setting aside the impugned order and allowing the appeal.
