Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court dismissed the appeals filed by the Delhi Development Authority, affirming the lower court's decisions which were based on prior judgments in similar cases. The Court granted the appellant a one-year period to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings under Section 24(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. It was clarified that failure to initiate such proceedings would result in the return of physical possession of the land to the original landowner.
