The Supreme Court held that under Section 28 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, the appellant is entitled to interest on enhanced compensation at the rate of 9% per annum for one year from the date of dispossession, and thereafter at 15% per annum until payment. The Court found that the compensation awarded by the High Court was already higher than similar cases, thus denying further enhancement. The judgment was partly modified to reflect the correct interest rates as per the statute.
