Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court examined the application of Section 29 A of the Hindu Succession (Tamil Nadu Amendment) Act, 1989, which grants daughters equal rights as sons in coparcenary property. The Court held that the Appellant, having married after the amendment, is entitled to a 6/20 share in the ancestral property, while her sisters, who married prior to the amendment, are entitled to 1/20 share each. The Court remitted the matter to the Trial Court for a fresh examination of the properties inherited by the Appellant's father, ensuring all relevant properties are included in the partition suit.
