Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court examined the applicability of Section 29 A of the Hindu Succession (Tamil Nadu Amendment) Act, 1989, which grants daughters equal rights in coparcenary property. The Court held that daughters married after the amendment are entitled to a share equal to that of sons, thereby affirming the Appellant's right to a 1/4 share of the ancestral property. The matter was remitted to the Trial Court for further proceedings to include all properties inherited by the Appellant's father in the partition suit.
