Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court dismissed the appeals filed by the Delhi Development Authority, affirming the lower court's decisions which were in line with prior judgments. The Court held that the appellant has one year to exercise its rights under Section 24(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings. If no such proceedings are initiated within the stipulated time, the appellant must return possession of the land to the original owners.
