Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by the Government of NCT of Delhi, affirming that the issue was already covered against the appellant by prior judgments. The Court granted the appellant a period of one year to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings under Section 24(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. It was clarified that failure to initiate proceedings within this period would require the appellant to return possession of the land to the original owner.
