Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Vidhayak Nidhi Scheme in Uttar Pradesh, affirming that it does not conflict with Article 243ZD of the Constitution or the U.P. District Planning Committee Act, 1999. The Court found that both the Vidhayak Nidhi Scheme and the MPLADS serve complementary roles in development planning, allowing elected representatives to recommend projects while respecting the framework established by the District Planning Committees. The appeal against the Allahabad High Court's dismissal of the writ petition was therefore rejected, affirming the legality of the scheme.
