BALWAN SINGH vs LAND ACQUISITION COLLECTOR

The Supreme Court held that landowners are entitled to additional interest at the rate of 15% per annum for the period from dispossession to the date of Notification under Section 4(1) of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894. This decision follows the precedent set in R.L. Jain (D) by Lrs. Vs. DDA & Ors. and further clarified in Madishetti Bala Ramul (dead) by Lrs. Vs. Land Acquisition Officer. The Court directed that this compensation be calculated based on the land value fixed by the Reference Court and deposited within three months.
