Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court overturned the High Court's decision that had set aside the conviction of the respondent under Sections 7 and 13(1)(d) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The Court reaffirmed that the demand and acceptance of bribe by a public servant constitutes a clear violation of the P.C. Act, and the evidence presented was sufficient to uphold the conviction. Consequently, the Court restored the trial court's sentence of rigorous imprisonment and fine imposed on the respondent.
