Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923, legal heirs of a deceased workman are entitled to interest on the awarded compensation amount. The Court set aside the High Court's judgment that denied interest, restoring the Assistant Labour Commissioner's award of Rs. 3,06,180 with interest at 12% per annum. The Insurance Company was directed to pay the awarded amount along with interest within eight weeks.
