Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that the compulsory acquisition of land under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 lapses as per Section 24(2) of The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The Court held that since the compensation was not tendered to the appellant and remained in the Treasury, the acquisition proceedings were invalid. Consequently, the Court affirmed the appellant's possession of the land and declared the acquisition lapsed.
