Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court addressed the issue of inter-se seniority between the appellants, appointed as Supply Inspectors on 14.11.1983, and the private respondents, appointed as Assistant Consolidation Officers but later adjusted as Supply Inspectors in 1995. The Court held that both groups should be deemed to have been appointed on the same date, 14.11.1983, due to an acknowledged mistake by the Bihar State Subordinate Selection Board. Consequently, the Court emphasized that the inter-se seniority of the Supply Inspectors must be determined in accordance with the principles of law governing seniority and not merely by the date of adjustment or appointment.
