Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the validity of two notifications dated 10.08.2009 issued under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, for the acquisition of land measuring 192.75 acres for the development of Missing Link-II and 59 acres for a residential urban estate. The Court found that the acquisition was for a public purpose aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Ludhiana and that the process followed was in accordance with the statutory provisions. Consequently, the appeals against the High Court's dismissal of writ petitions challenging the notifications were rejected, affirming the legality of the land acquisition.
