Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Kerala High Court which affirmed the Scrutiny Committee's cancellation of K.P. Manu's caste certificate under the Kerala (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Regulation of Issue of Community Certificates Act, 1996. The Court found that the appellant, who converted to Hinduism from Christianity, failed to demonstrate adherence to the customs and traditions of the Hindu Pulaya community, thus justifying the Committee's conclusion that he was not entitled to the caste benefits. The Court held that the issuance of the caste certificate was erroneous and upheld the actions taken by the State Government based on the Committee's findings.
