The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the appellant under Sections 7 and 13(1)(d) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, confirming the High Court's decision. The Court found that the appellant, a hostel warden, demanded and accepted illegal gratification of Rs. 2000 from a student for re-admission to the hostel, establishing the elements of corruption as defined in the Act. The sentences of two years' rigorous imprisonment for Section 7 and four years for Section 13 were deemed appropriate and were ordered to run concurrently.
