The Supreme Court modified the Labour Court's Award dated 17.08.2012, which directed the reinstatement of the respondent, a daily wage Chowkidar, who was discontinued in 1994. The Court held that given the 14-year delay in approaching the authorities and the nature of his employment, it was appropriate to award him compensation of Rs. 2 lacs instead of reinstatement. The appeal by the State of M.P. was allowed, and the modified order was to be complied with within eight weeks.
