Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the validity of Notifications No.39 and No.63 issued under The Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, which prohibited the import of palm oil through Kochi and all ports in Kerala. The Court found that the Central Government acted within its powers under Section 3 and Section 5 of the Act, rejecting claims of ultra vires and violation of Article 14 of the Constitution. The Court held that the restrictions were not arbitrary or discriminatory, thus dismissing the appeals of the appellants.
