Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court allowed the appeal challenging the conviction under Sections 7 and 13(1)(d) read with Section 2 of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, originally sentenced to three years and two years of rigorous imprisonment respectively. Considering the appellant's age (65 years) and serious health issues, the Court modified the sentence to the mandatory minimum of one year under Section 13(2) and six months under Section 7, with the sentences to run concurrently. The appeal was allowed with no change in the fine imposed.
