The Supreme Court directed the State of Tamil Nadu to conduct an independent investigation into the alleged police inaction during the violent incident at Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College on 12.11.2008, where students were beaten. The Court emphasized the need for accountability in cases of human rights violations and held that the failure of police to intervene constituted a dereliction of duty. The Court ordered that the investigation be conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure impartiality and thoroughness.
