Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the High Court's decision to quash notifications under Section 6 and partly under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, which invoked the urgency clause without proper procedure. The Court mandated that the Collector must conduct inquiries under Section 5A, allowing landowners to file objections with a minimum notice period of 30 days. The ruling also stipulated that compensation already received must be refunded, but tenure holders without objections may seek exemption from this requirement.
