Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the qualification requirement imposed by the Life Insurance Corporation of India, which disallowed candidates with higher qualifications than Standard IX, violated Article 14 of the Constitution. The Court found the punishment of removal from service for the writ petitioner, who had concealed his higher qualifications, to be discriminatory compared to a similarly situated employee who received a lesser penalty. Consequently, the Court upheld the High Court's order reinstating the respondent and directed the appellant to reconsider the penalty imposed.
