Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the applicability of Chapter IIB of the West Bengal Land Reforms Act, 1955 to the appellants, who were residents of a transferred territory from Bihar to West Bengal, was correctly determined by the High Court. The Court affirmed the High Court's reliance on the precedent set in Ganga Dhar Singh & Ors. vs. State of West Bengal, 1997 (II) CHN 140, and upheld the dismissal of the writ applications. The Court concluded that the legislative framework did not extend the provisions of the Land Reforms Act to the appellants' lands as claimed.
