Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the Bar Council of India does not have the authority to determine the equivalence of educational qualifications for enrollment as an Advocate, as this falls under the jurisdiction of the Central Council of Homoeopathy established by the Homoeopathy Central Council Act, 1973. The Court found that the appellant's qualification of LCEH was recognized by the University of Mumbai as equivalent to a graduation degree, and thus, the denial of enrollment violated her rights under Article 14 of the Constitution. The Court set aside the High Court's dismissal of the writ petition and directed the Bar Council to reconsider the appellant's application for enrollment.
