Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the issue of compounding non-compoundable offences under Sections 326 and 307 IPC. It held that while offences under Sections 323, 324, and 341 IPC are compoundable with court permission, non-compoundable offences cannot be compounded as per Section 320 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973. The Court clarified that the High Court may quash proceedings under Section 482 of the Code if the parties have amicably settled their disputes, but this discretion is limited to the facts of each case and does not apply to serious offences involving moral turpitude.
