Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that the Working Journalists and Other Newspaper Employees (Conditions of Service) and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1955, does not infringe Articles 14, 19(1)(a), and 19(1)(g) of the Constitution of India. The Court held that the Act is a valid legislative measure aimed at regulating the conditions of service and wage fixation for journalists and newspaper employees. The petitioners' challenge to the Act and the notification dated 11.11.2011 was dismissed, affirming the constitutionality of the Wage Boards established under Sections 9 and 13C of the Act.
