Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that the corrigendum issued by the Medical Council of India, which limited the benefits of the 'Enhancement of Annual Intake Capacity in Undergraduate Courses in Medical College for the Academic Session 2013-14 Regulations 2013' to Government medical colleges only, is unconstitutional and violates Article 14 of the Constitution of India. The Court emphasized that the Regulations 2013 were intended to apply uniformly to both Government and Non-Government medical colleges to achieve the objective of enhancing medical education capacity. The Court quashed the corrigendum, thereby allowing private medical colleges to benefit from the Regulations as well.
