Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court examined the constitutionality of Sections 3, 5, 8, and 9 of the Andhra Pradesh Protection of Depositors of Financial Establishments Act, 1999, ruling that these provisions do not violate Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution. The Court held that the petitioners, former Directors of Vasavi Cooperative Urban Bank, were rightly charge-sheeted under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Andhra Act for their involvement in a conspiracy to defraud depositors. Consequently, the petitions seeking to quash the proceedings and prevent arrest were dismissed.
