Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that the Corrigendum Notification restricting the benefits of the 'Enhancement of Annual Intake Capacity in Undergraduate Courses in Medical Colleges for the Academic Session 2013-14' solely to Government Medical Colleges is unconstitutional and violates Article 14 of the Constitution of India. The Court emphasized that the Regulations 2013 were intended to apply uniformly to both Government and Non-Government medical colleges to achieve the objective of improving the Doctor-Population ratio. The Court quashed the Corrigendum, holding that it cannot override the statutory Regulations 2013.
